Icewear began as a knitting studio over 50 years ago in 1972. Ever since the company has been innovating and creating the best products for you, local farmers, wildlife and the environment and has grown into an internationally renowned supplier of high quality clothing.
Icewear released their Icelandic wool insulated collection on Iceland’s Sovereignty Day 1st December, in 2021. The range has continued to grow and Icewear have continued to innovate ever since, offering classical and modern styles of carefully designed clothing and accessories.
Tradition and science come together
The team at Icewear are excited to have gained the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 for the new Black Sheep Collection, the latest innovation with Icelandic wool at its heart.
Just as the Lopayeysa jumper was originally innovative, natural and sustainable so too is the Black Sheep Collection, being a natural, sustainable and innovative alternative to down, polyester and other fillings. The Black Sheep Collection is the next chapter in wool outdoor garments incorporating the natural benefits of Icelandic wool clothing.
The collection features a range of easy to wear, lightweight clothing for the whole family designed with comfort and functionality in mind. The 100% OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified range is insulated with 60gr of Icelandic wool with its unique thel and tog layers that make Icelandic wool the warmest you can get. Icelandic wool is lighter and warmer than other materials in direct comparisons. The 80% Icelandic wool insulation is blended with 20% recycled polyester for maximum efficiency. The Icewear combination is strong, breathable and sustainable.
With the Black Sheep Collection Icewear introduces an outdoor range of 60 gram layers of Icelandic wool insulation featuring great lightweight and thin jackets, trousers and skirts, that are all perfect for ensuring fantastic outdoor activity experiences.
Several components of the wider Icewear clothing range already have OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified elements or integrate recycled materials, for example filling such as Thermore ® polyester. Plus, of course all the wool used is sustainable and 100% natural.
What OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 means for consumers
The Black Sheep range is the first collection of Icewear´s clothing which is 100% OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 approved, from the zippers, thread, filling and outer recycled material. All tested for harmful substances. The standard sets the benchmark for textile safety and every item bearing the label is certified that it has passed the safety tests checking for harmful substances.
All components of the range are certified, the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100® STANDARD 100 means:
- Harmless to human health
- Globally standardised criteria
- Regular review of limit values for harmful substances
- Every thread, button and accessory is included in the tests
- Strict human ecology requirements and laboratory tests for intensive skin contact

Every single aspect of the garment has passed the rigorous testing; that includes zips, thread, filling, lining and outer materials. Because every aspect has passed, there is complete peace of mind that the garments are safe and sustainable, of course coming from Icewear they are also functional.
The team at Icewear consider the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 the next step in their long history of working with wool and creating innovative clothing.
