
Icewear Opens New Stores in North Iceland
Outdoor wear specialists Icewear continue to expand in their home country, Iceland as well as increasing online sales. The latest additions include a store in Húsavík (a town that gained added recognition recently at the Oscars). By the end of 2024 Icewear has seven shops offering a variety of Icewear clothing, blankets, products, souvenirs, carefully selected footwear and of course wool and knitting patterns.

Húsavík #
One of the latest shops to open is in Húsavík. Húsavík was made famous from being featured in the Netflix film “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga” starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams which featured the Oscar nominated song named after the town. The shop is in the heart of the popular tourist area of the picturesque town, ensuring excellent accessibility for visitors eager to explore Húsavík for its culture and scenery.
Akureyri City #
As well as the new Húsavík shop Icewear has increased their presence in Akureyri City where three more shops open this year, bringing the total in Akureyri to five shops.
Described as the capital of the north Akureyri City is small for a city with a population of around 19,000 people ensuring a compact town like feel. Akureyri boasts art galleries, museums, festivals, and a long Viking history. It’s convenient for visiting Godafoss Waterfall, Lake Myvatn, and Eyjafjordur Fjord, together with hiking and whale watching opportunities. Akureyri is a perfect year-round visitor destination.
Vitinn (The Lighthouse): Situated in the harbour, Vitinn is conveniently placed for cruise ship passengers and visitors to the harbour, the store features a selection of Icelandic wool products and souvenirs.
Hafnarstræti Clothing Store: Located on Akureyri City’s main road (also called Hafnarstræti), stocking a wide variety of outdoor wear, equipment, and traditional Icelandic clothing this shop has long been a staple in Akureyri for residents and visitors.
Icemart: Also located on Hafnarstræti, Icemart is a souvenir shop that opened in the spring of 2024, Icemart is in the same building as other Icewear stores and sells keepsakes, mementos, local crafts and souvenirs.
Icewear Yarn Store: The yarn store is a specialist shop that also opened in the 2024 spring. It’s in the same building as Icemart and is a must visit for knitting fans with its expansive range of Icelandic yarn and knitting supplies.
Icewear Magasin: Conveniently situated at the same building on Hafnarstræti Icewear Magasin offers an extensive collection of Icewear’s signature products, with a large range of outdoor gear and knitwear including traditional Scandinavian wool jumpers.

Goðafoss Waterfall #
Icewear has a shop near the famous beautiful Goðafoss Waterfall, where a good stock of Icewear clothing, hiking equipment and souvenirs is available, it’s a range that includes traditional Icelandic jumpers and much more.
The expansion with new shops highlights the popularity and growth of Icewear and the ongoing commitment to provide quality outdoor clothing and traditional Scandinavian and Icelandic knitwear to Icelanders and visitors. Icewear has a long history of tradition and innovation, starting as a wool knitting brand in 1972.
